“The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” ( Genesis 2: 15)
In many areas of the world, people in poverty feel like they are dependant on others for their very sustenance and the church often is dependant on the charity of the West. Developing God’s world to be a blessing to His creatures and His church to be self sustaining is both of God and a blessing to the community in which it has been called to be a light. Canon Charles Muturi has said, “Our church will take no funds from the West. We will avoid the illness of our continent: dependence.”
This study Manual will guide the learner through the Biblical themes on sustainability in the following areas:
- Great Things for God
- God Created the World to be Developed
- Sin Hinders the World from Developing Well
- God Shows Mercy to His Broken World
- Good Development
- Justice and Injustice
- Planning for sustainability
The study manual helps good leaders to be good teachers by being good examples and coaches. The inductive method is used in teaching this manual. The only text is the Bible. Each participant finishes his/her study with an action plan to be implemented in the next six to twelve months. As the Spirit of God guides through these action plans, new forms of sustainability develop and both Church and community are blessed.
